The Varenik

LOCATION KYIV
YEAR 2017
AREA 81
The fast food restaurant "The Varenik" defies all the norms and conventions of its genre, from its cooking methods to its design and atmosphere. While we are witnessing the closure of many traditional fast food establishments due to their unhealthy nature, a new generation of restaurants is emerging to take their place. The smallest details are given careful attention and thought.

DETAILS

While incorporating cultural Ukrainian traditions like the viburnum pattern or embroidered ornaments on the white walls, the atmosphere at "The Varenik" is filled with experimentation and modern decorative solutions. The space is adorned with unique art objects that have been specifically created for this project, serving as semantic focal points. For instance, huge objects of kitchen utensils, arranged in a row, or hanging in the air bird's nests, rolled by hand.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Interestingly, the current popular trend of handmade creations aligns harmoniously with the cooking process at "The Varenik", where dumplings are prepared in an open kitchen.

An original lighting could be one of the main unifying techniques. A large-scale structure composed of discs resembling natural wood saws, gracefully suspended in the air. This artistic arrangement evokes unconventional associations related to the kitchen, bridging the realms of the past and the future.

MATERIA 174

With each passing year, the change of generations is felt more sharply. The young Centennials are no longer children; most of them have already reached adulthood. Consequently, their needs are noticeably changing and influencing many things around them.

For example, distinct traits and characteristics, such as heightened visual perception and a frugal approach to their time, have brought significant changes to the culinary culture of consumption. In other words, everything associated with a brand should have a stylish, fashionable, and modern look, especially a unique design. Even one poorly executed detail can turn off the younger generation. Nevertheless, all the changes that are occurring are only improving the food industry and benefiting us as consumers. Now we can appreciate the quality of design even in our everyday rush. Perhaps in the next stage of food court evolution, we can expect completely new technologies that we cannot even imagine yet. The future is now.
